Matt Vanderkooy, M.Sc., P.Geo., P.G.
Principal Contaminant Geoscientist | Co-Founder, Caliber Insights™
Matt Vanderkooy is a widely respected contaminant geoscientist with over 15 years of experience delivering high-impact environmental solutions across North America. His technical focus spans PFAS investigation, fate and transport analysis, remediation strategy, emissions and discharges controls, and permitting under the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act.
Matt has led and supported the development and implementation of PFAS remediation systems across multiple environmental media—groundwater, stormwater, sediment, and air—earning national recognition, including the National Ground Water Association’s 2023 Outstanding Groundwater Remediation Project Award. His background combines scientific rigor with strategic foresight: clients rely on him not only for credible technical work but also for trusted guidance under scrutiny, whether from regulators, litigators, or executive stakeholders.
Beyond his technical contributions, Matt is a recognized leader in client development and team-building. He has spearheaded multimillion-dollar portfolios, built collaborative multidisciplinary teams, and served as a mentor to emerging environmental professionals. His approachable style, focus on outcomes, and commitment to integrity have earned him accolades from peers, staff, and industry partners alike.
Matt co-founded Caliber Insights to create a responsive, mission-driven consulting firm—one that empowers scientists and engineers to grow, contribute meaningfully, and work on the environmental challenges that matter most. At Caliber, he continues to lead with empathy, strategic clarity, and a belief that technical excellence and client service should always go hand in hand.
Dr. Cathy Crea is a leading environmental statistician with over 15 years of experience translating complex environmental data into clear, defensible insights that drive decision-making. Her expertise spans multivariate statistics, environmental forensics, background study design, and advanced data modeling in support of site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance.
Cathy is highly sought after for her rare blend of technical depth, strategic thinking, and dedication to quality. Clients value her ability to turn raw data into meaningful conclusions—helping them manage uncertainty, anticipate regulatory expectations, and make confident decisions under scrutiny.
She has led the development and management of large-scale private well sampling and replacement programs, as well as the design and implementation of defensible background studies that distinguish ambient conditions from site-related contamination. Her statistical analyses support a wide range of regulatory programs, including NPDES permitting, Superfund (CERCLA), and coal combustion residual (CCR) rules.
Cathy’s work often bridges science, policy, and communication. She regularly collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to guide strategy on high-profile environmental projects across North America and internationally. While she provides critical statistical support in litigation settings, her role focuses on rigorous analysis and expert advisory—not testimony.
As a co-founder of Caliber Insights, Cathy brings a clear-eyed, data-driven approach to complex environmental challenges. She is committed to delivering technical excellence while mentoring future leaders and maintaining a culture grounded in curiosity, rigor, and client success.
